Elisa was driving when she noticed something moving near the side of the road. It was a small golden puppy, sitting all alone.
“Oh my God, somebody just dumped puppies over here,” Elisa said in shock as she stopped her car.
Then she saw it clearly—there were more puppies down a steep slope. They had fallen and couldn’t climb back up. Their tiny legs kept slipping as they tried.
“Oh God, hi babies… they all have fallen down… except for this guy.”
The ground was steep and slippery. Elisa had to slide down to reach them. Her clothes got caught in branches. The puppies got scared and ran when they saw her coming closer.
“Hi, Mama… God, they can’t climb… now I can’t climb,” she said, realizing she might not be able to get back up either.
She gathered the frightened pups in her arms. It was a busy road, and cars were flying by just a few steps away.
“God, there are so many cars travelling at such speed… ok, I managed to get them,” Elisa said, holding the little puppies close.
There were four boys, all black or light brown, and one golden girl. But their mama was missing.
“I found these guys. Four of them male… and this female that is golden in color. But their mom ran away,” Elisa said with sadness.
She quickly took the puppies to the vet to make sure they were okay.
Then she went back. Back to find their mother.
There, hiding near the same steep slope, was a thin, tired dog. She was just a puppy herself, maybe under a year old. Her eyes looked scared and sad.
“This is little Mama down here… oh God! She is just a puppy. Hi Mama! Come on Mama! Come Mama,” Elisa spoke gently, giving the young dog space to feel safe.
The mama dog wagged her tail just a little. She looked at the ground, too tired to move fast. But something in her said “yes.” She was ready.
With slow steps, Elisa led her to safety.
“Guys, I caught her. I know you’re not happy right now. But I promise you, you are not gonna regret this,” she said softly, standing near the crate where Mama rested for the first time.
In the next few weeks, they healed. Their fur got clean. Their eyes started to shine. They played, they ate, and they began to trust again.
The golden girl, named Gigi, was the first to find a forever home. She was the first to ride the “happy bus.”
This little family was once broken. But now, they had a second chance—all because Elisa stopped her car and chose love.
